Sunday Sweets Gets Touchy-Feely
In my perpetual quest for the most Sweets-worthy Sweets to show you guys, I often find fabulous, new-to-me techniques, designs and textures - but they don't necessarily fit one of my weekly themes.
So today I've rounded up some of my favorites of these, and we'll call the theme... um... ah! I know: CAKES I WANNA FEEL UP.
Like this one:
(By Floral Cakes By Jessic MV)
Tell me you don't want to run your fingers over that bottom tier. Or poke the weaving on top. It's just so darn COOL.
Check out the fluttery layers on this sweet geometric number:
(By Sugar Pot)
I assume that's edible rice paper, but it looks almost feathery soft.
On the opposite end of the spectrum: edible barbed wire, y'all:
And I just noticed there's a little key on the barbed wire! So many other great textures here, too, from the faux wood grain to the carved floral relief. Great contrast.
This next one is the cake equivalent of champagne, 'cuz it looks so bubbly:

Are those beady-bubbles all hand-piped? I can't tell. See, if I could poke it I could tell.
Which is probably why Suzanne is so happy I only have a picture of her cake.
We've all seen a zillion ruffle cakes by now, but here's a Sweet twist on classic ruffles:
(Baker unknown. Anybody know?)
...literally! Isn't that amazing?
One of my favorite new techniques out there.
This dripping lace and 3D floral sculpt is calling my name, you guys:
(By Albena Cakes)
It's saying, "Jeeeen. Pet meeeeee."
Is it weird to pet a cake? 'Cuz I'd be willing to find out.
OooOOoooh. Now THIS one looks like perfect porcelain wall tile:
(By Jessica Harris)
Like, I want my bathroom tiled in this texture. Which I realize is a strange compliment to give a cake, but I'm just speaking the truth here, minions.
And while I'm decorating my house with cake textures, I'll take this one as a vintage-style duvet cover for the guest room we don't have:
(By Emma Page Cakes)
Srsly, HOW IS THAT EVEN ICING?!
I'm not sure I believe that's edible, guys. I need to smoosh my face in it, just to be sure. Can someone make that happen?
Here's a variation on the fondant ruffle that I can't stop staring at:
(By Lulu Cake Boutique)
I'm not sure if it's the combination of the ruffles with the pearls, or just the oh-so-natural way it drapes and falls on the tiers, but I... LOVE... this.
And finally, a masterpiece of so many insanely skilled textures that you'd have to have it roped off and guarded to keep me from getting lovingly handsy:
(By The Vagabond Baker)
LOOK HOW AMAZING.
From the breaking "waves" on both the bottom and top to that intricate "beading" to the fanned out coral, this cake is doing its darndest to break my brain. And since I just caught myself patting the computer screen where the beaded tier is, I think it may have succeeded.
Hope you guys enjoyed! Happy Sunday!
