Sunday Sweets Celebrates Mid-Century Modern
Any Mid-Century Modern fans out there? I didn't think I was 'til I started following a few interior design folks online, and now I'm really warming up to the retro atomic-era style.
It also helps when I find cakes like this!

My favorite color combo in sweet starburst patterns? SIGN ME UP.
This one reminds me of the colorful wallpapers you see in retro kitchens, the kind where the refrigerator is a matching teal:
(Carrie Sellman, online only)
And look at this sweet grid pattern:

I like the succulents instead of flowers!
This wedding had a vintage Pan-Am travel theme, so talk about the perfect cake stand:

This blue and yellow are so cheerful together, right?
More happy colors and shapes with this kid's cake:

Anyone have original terrazzo floors in their house? (Mine was built in '64, so we do.) This mid-century staple seems to be coming back, both for floors AND for cake:
(Blue & Ruby Cake Art, Australia)
The terrazzo in my house is boring gray, but our original bathtub and sink were exactly this shade of pink!
Here's a stunning minimalist starburst:

And I like the darker jewel tones in this one:

This one feels very Mary Blair to me:
(Featured here, but the baker isn't credited. Anyone know?)
Mary Blair was the artist and designer behind Disney's Small World ride. Look her up if you've never seen her art, it's ahhhhh-mazing - just like this cake!
In fact, I'm going to end with my favorite Small World-inspired cake, since it combines Mid-Century Modern and a little Disney magic:
(Hey There Cupcake, California)
That's a combination worth singing about!
Hope these Sweets made you smile. Happy Sunday!
