The Cold Never Bothered Sunday Sweets, Anyway

According to the news, many of you are experiencing somewhat cooler temperatures these days. One could almost say it's a bit nippy out there. You know, sweater weather.

Or you might be buried in 10 feet of snow.

Either way, I say we celebrate the cold with some gorgeous cakes!

What better way to start than with Jack Frost holding a cupcake? "Icing" has never been so aptly named.

Or how about some Frosty frosting?

Btw, if you're having a hard time remembering these are actually cake, you're not alone.

Maybe if we tried some more traditional, tiered designs...

Nope. Still can't believe it's cake. Look how the lower bird is slightly 3D! And that hand-painting! Amazing.

This one looks like a perfectly painted stack of hat boxes:

Can't get over the texture on the hat and mittens; reminds me of a soft nubby sweater I used to own.

As fantastic as those are, though, you must admit that no one builds snowmen quite like Calvin & Hobbes:

The perfect cake for slightly twisted families, like mine. :D

Hee!

Or if you prefer your winter characters with a little less, um, dismemberment:

Bumble the abominable snow monster! Aww.

And these cute little penguins are ready to par-TAY:

Or, for a more modern take:

Love the clean lines and shapes, and those vintage woodcut illustrations are deliciously retro-chic.
(Plus there's a bear in a row boat. C'mon. WHIMSY.)

This one would make a great Christmas card:

Hang on, I just noticed one bird is wearing a veil and the other has a twee little bow-tie! D'aww, it's a wedding cake! LOVE.

Most wintry cakes are all silvers, whites, and blues, so I'm loving this decadent bronze number:

Stunning. Just... stunning.

And finally, since most of us still aren't ready to "let it go," how about the most amazing Frozen castle cake EVER?

(By Celebrate With Cake)

WOW.

Elsa's ice castle there is a whopping 27 inches tall, lit with 2 dozen LEDs, and fed over 150 people! I'm most impressed by the airbrushing and all those delicate tower spires; it looks like a movie-maker's model. SO COOL.(Pun intended.)

Well, hope you guys enjoyed this week's Sweets! Happy Sunday, and stay warm out there!
