Sunday Sweets For My Wedding Anniversary!! And I Guess Yours, Too, John
This week John and I will be celebrating our... ::squints:: ::does math in my head:: twenty-second wedding anniversary?! Dang. I guess getting married when we were pre-teens really payed off! (Of course I'm only 32. Shhh. STOP DOING THE MATH.)
The past 8 or 9 years we've been in Atlanta for Dragon Con each anniversary, so we've counted that as our celebration. After all, nothing says "we're in this for the long haul" like filming a 3AM dance party with Gandalf in fishnets, a Spartan conga line, and enough inflatable dinosaur costumes to form their own bouncy house. The couple that cosplays together, stays together.
Of course this year will be different, no matter how many inflatable T-Rex costumes I buy. So I thought I'd go looking for some sweet anniversary cakes to show John.
Like this!
(Hustoh, Qatar)
Awww. I want you to know, John, that if you had blueberry hair I'd still love you. But you might wake up bald one night.
OR there's the classic, timeless approach:
(Pretty Parties, Australia)
OooOOOooh that's pretty. Although I bet this only works with wedding photos from a certain era, you know? Our wedding photos are so late 90s - and my dress was SO big - that they look like the reboot of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. :D
Another photo cake I'm loving:
(Baker Mama, Texas)
Technically this is a wedding cake, but wouldn't it be sweet for an anniversary? It's so rare to find photo cakes done this well, I love the little touches of color.
For the couple who loves puns but also wants to keep it classy:
(Kickshaw Cakes, Ireland)
Get it?
Because WE MAKE A GREAT PAIR. Eh? EH?
Or the non-subtle approach, because when have John and I *ever* been classy:
(The Crafty Kitchen, Wales)
If John and I ever looked this good - and had a photo like this to prove it - you can bet I'd have someone paint it on a cake:
(Lilit Arakelyan, Russia)
Although the flying seagulls and waves steal the show. I think I'd order just the top part, then ask the baker to write, "MINE? MINE? MINE?" all over the bottom. Because we loooove an overused Pixar reference. :D
'Course we also love Disney:
(Luana Leonora, Brazil)
The heart lollipops are a great touch!
Most of these haven't been obviously anniversary cakes, but here's a beautiful 25th anniversary design:
The painted hearts show the different stages of their lives together, so sweet! (Ours would have a heart with Junk Lady from Labyrinth on it. If you read Epbot, you know why.)
I can't remember the last time I featured a basic sheet cake here on Sweets, but this one (which was for a 60th wedding anniversary) is really darn cute:
(Lovin' From The Oven, Canada)
So John does all the cooking for us, but one of the few things I can actually make that he loves are my toasted PB&Js. So this is perfect!
This penguin cake caught my eye because it's based on one of John's favorite art prints:
(A Pocket Full Of Sweetness, Australia)
Here's the print, it's even better with the caption:
That's by my friend Katrina, check out her other prints for excessively cute & punny art.
And finally, let's end with the most UP-lifting anniversary cake yet:
(Dolce Favola, Italy)
MARRIAGE GOALS, baby.
Just another ::squints:: ::does more math:: 28 years to go, John!
Whatever you're celebrating this week - whether it's something big and momentous or just the fact that you survived to tackle another day - I hope it's extra, extra Sweet.

P.S. So what do you give the geek who's willingly spent 22 years of his life reminding you which input on the remote control is for the DVD player?
Why this, of course:
Da Vinci Code Mini Cryptex Puzzle Box
Perfect for anyone who loves scavenger hunts and puzzles - and afterward it's a gorgeous display piece!
